Garden renovation at Daisykins Nursery in Rugby
The plans to change the garden at Daisykins Nursery in Rugby begins
The outdoor area at Daisykins Nursery in Rugby has been completely renovated this year and as such we now have a space in which the children can play and explore that extends the learning and development of children from 12 months to 4 years.
We now have a mud kitchen consisting of a worktop, oven, washing bowl and utensils which the children use on a daily basis. This area enhances the children’s use of their imagination and enables them to start making connections through discovering and investigating cause and effect, as well as provoking their curiosity. In the same area we have a new Bug Hotel which the children are fascinated with, they use magnifying glasses to hunt for bugs that may have set up camp in the hotel and the older children like learning about all the different names for bugs and insects.
The newest addition to the outdoor area will be Daisystreet which is under construction at present but is nearly completed. Daisystreet will be a miniature version of a real street complete with shops and a supermarket. The idea is that children will be able to experience day to day routines in a context that is applicable to them. The learning that can happen can involve cognitive, imaginative, creative, emotional and social aspects in just that one area. The children will be able to dress up and take on a role such as shopkeeper or chef.We also have a climbing wall to encourage the development of the children’s physical skills and to enhance the older children’s sense of teamwork and problem solving when they have races to the top.The outdoor area is a natural environment for children with a freedom that cannot be replicated inside. It provides them with a space where they can be less inhibited and have opportunities to work creatively on a larger scale as well as develop their physical skills.
