Christmas Mark Making Fun

Getting Into the Festive Spirit

A Christmas painting activity was set up in the messy room for the children in Toddler Room to join in. The children put on their aprons and sat down at the table ready to take part. To encourage the children to make choices they were offered different coloured card to paint on.  The children were very eager in dipping the rubber stamps into the tray of paint. They took it in turns to use the different shaped stamps, passing the stamp to their friend once they had finished. One of our fantastic practitioners, Kerry, talked to the children about what colours they were using and the marks they were making. One little boy was reluctant in touching the paint and getting messy, therefore Kerry supported him in developing his confidence by using words of encouragement and by placing her hand on top of his, guiding him through the activity first, before prompting him to participate in the activity independently.[ngg src="galleries" ids="284" display="basic_slideshow"]The children experimented with the marks they made, some dabbing the stamps on the paper and others rolling the stamps over their paper. Not only was this an excellent mark making activity, but it also involved learning about colour mixing.  The children watched the colour purple being made as they dipped their stamp into the blue paint and dabbed it over their red marks. The children's Christmas mark making painting will be displayed on the wall in the messy room along with the children Christmas collage pictures. Be sure to have a look when you next come in!
