Christmas Tree Decorating

Working together to decorate the playdough Christmas tree

To extend a previous playdough activity Kelly, our Nursery Manager, made some green playdough ready to construct into the shape of a Christmas tree.

The playdough Christmas tree was placed in the middle of a craft tray along with Christmas items placed around the side in each section of the tray. The children were excited to start decorating the tree. With this activity promoting collaboration and turn taking, the children worked closely together to decorate the Christmas tree. The children independently selected the items they wanted to add onto the tree and pressed them into the dough. Lots of beads and bows were placed on the tree and pom poms were used to represent baubles.

The children were very vocal in talking to practitioners about what they were doing and they looked to Connie, one of the practitioners based in Pre-School Minors, and Laura, our Head of Pre-School Minors, for praise and encouragment

Upon completion of decorating the tree, the children were very precious of  their masterpiece and did not want it to be deconstructed, wanting to keep it on show for others to see.
