Daisykins Food Festival 2011
The daisykins Food Festival 2011 was a huge success with everyone getting really excited about food and where it comes from. It was a chance for parents, children and practitioners to work together to create an amazing learning journey, all about the things that we eat.
The week got off to a great start with some children from Great Dais Pre School fruit picking in the nursery garden with a mummy from bai-bees. The children found it very exciting to pick the apples straight from the tree. It gave them a real insight into how things grow. They then extended the activity by taking the apples inside and making them into an apple crumble for tea.
The children in baby plus got a real treat, helping a mummy from Pre School Minors decorate cupcakes. They used brightly coloured icing and lots of yummy toppings to create their own beautiful cakes. The best bit was eating the cakes after!
Potato Picking was the next adventure, with Mitchell Potato very kindly letting the children from daisykins have a go at digging up their own potatoes.
It was a lovely sunny day and with spades at the ready everyone dug in!
Wow what big potatoes!
Pre School Minors created a bakery in their role play area. The children had great fun pretending to make and sell cakes and buns. This kind of play encourages many skills, including language and imagination and also promotes working together in small groups.
