Developing new skills using the Smart Table

Learning how technology works at Daisykins at Rugby Free Primary School

This fantastic new piece of technology is a firm favourite with the children. Each day the children are able to explore the educational games either on their own or with their friends. The simple games are highly effective in teaching children a wide range of skills. One of the children's favourite games at the moment is the dinosaur game. The aim of this game is to match the labels to the correct body parts. Practitioner Laura helped the children read the words on the labels and the children used their finger to drag the label to correct body part. Children took it in turns and wait patiently for their turn. One child from Daisykins at Rugby Free Primary School said "This is my favourite game because we get to move the parts to the dinosaur"The children are also very interested in the musical instrument game, as they are able to choose a musical instrument and listen to the sound it makes. The music is very interesting when all the musical instrument buttons have been pressed. This game teaches children the names of instruments they may not of heard or seen and it enables children to listen to different sounds and rhythms of music.Playing on the Smart Table increases children’s hand eye co-ordination as they have to move and match objects according to the instructions and this requires excellent hand eye co-ordinatin. Children also get to learn how to operate equipment which is a great skill to have at a young age.  Exploring the Smart Table gives children the opportunity to make choices and decisions as they are able to select what game to play.
