Early Mark Making Skills and Emergent Writing
Daisykins Nursery have been very busy introducing mark making stations and expressive arts and designs into every room. Pre-School minors have been very busy making the most of their new area and have enjoyed making choices and exploring the resources to see what they can create.A variety of mark making tools are in the area such as pencils, felt tips, highlighters, chalks and wax crayons.Coloured paper, note books and card are available for the children to choose to make their marks on. The children are able to access these areas when they wish and explore the resources however they like. The children in pre school minors are now gaining control over the tools they are using and giving meaning to the marks they make. Some of the children are developing their skills by holding the tools with a tripod grasp and moving from making marks to beginning to use their tools to begin forming letters. The children are supported in these developments by images of letters being displayed in the area. Also one to one time is given and circle time is used to develop these skills further.
