Learning some basic football skills
They shoot…they score!
The children in Pre-School at Daisykins Day Nursery in Rugby have recently begun having a weekly football session with leaders from KIT Academy. Football coaches Ryan and Tyler have taught the children some of the basic skills needed to play the game, such as control of the ball, which part of their foot to use when kicking a ball a short and long distance and aiming for a target.[ngg src="galleries" ids="248" display="basic_slideshow"]During our football sessions at Daisykins, the children will learn about following rules, taking turns, working with others and much more, whilst also developing their strength, balance and coordination. So far, the football sessions have seen the children learn; the names of the different parts of their foot, develop their counting skills during a group activity, introduce themselves and answer a particular question each session, imitate a penguin as they walk around the room controlling the ball between their feet, make small and big kicks, understand which part of their foot to use for each kick, avoid a range of obstacles, score a goal and much more. Each week the children look forward to their football session and are keen to get changed and onto the dancefloor ready to greet the football coach from KIT Academy. The children’s favourite activity last week allowed them to control the ball between their feet, make small kicks and aim the ball between two of the cones set up around the room to score a goal. We are extremely pleased to be able to offer the children a safe and low-pressure environment to first learn about sports and how to play co-operatively with others.
