Making Peach Tarts for Roald Dahl Day
Joining in Roald Dahl Day at Daisykins Nursery in Rugby
Roald Dahl Day is an annual worldwide celebration of one of the worlds famous storyteller. It is a time to celebrate the many stories that famous storyteller Roald Dahl has written. This Year, James and the Giant Peach was the chosen story to celebrate. The children in our Pre School at Daisykins Nursery decided to make Peach Tarts. Before making the Peach Tarts the practitioners shared the story with the children, giving them a little insight as to what the story was all about. The children were asked if they wanted to make their own Peach Tarts to take home and they couldn't wash their hands quick enough.[ngg src="galleries" ids="243" display="basic_slideshow"]The practitioners gathered all the ingredients together and talked through each one with the children. The children took it in turns to add their ingredients to their bowls. After flattening the dough with their hands the children then placed it into their pie dish and started spooning in the peaches one by one. The bowl of cinnamon was passed around the table for the children to smell as several children had not smelt this before. A sprinkle or two of cinnamon was sprinkled over the peach tart and then this was placed on the tray ready to go to the kitchen to be cooked.Cooking with the children at Daisykins Nursery in Rugby is a regular activity which helps the children to develop many areas of their learning and development, such as; working alongside others, building up a breadth of vocabulary and developing their mathematical and gross motor skills.
