Mixing all the colours together
Practitioners from Daisykins nursery in Rugby observed the children during a messy play morning and identified that they were deeply engrossed in making marks with paint. The observations highlighted the children were using their fingers and tools to make marks and were proud of their achievements. Having identified these interests practitioners consulted with each other and planned a colouring mixing activity with a twist. The children watched the practitioners squirt blobs of different coloured paint over the table and then cover the table with cling film. The children used their fingers to merge the blobs of paint together and they watched as the two colours made a new colour. This creative experience enabled children to learn about colour mixing and it allowed the children to express their creativity, they were fascinated in moving the paint around the table. Children pointed to the colours and with support from practitioners they discovered the names of new colours eg brown, orange.Children love joining in messy activities at nursery, they are able to use their body to express themselves as well using their voice to vocalise their enjoyment. A wide variety of messy play is available for children to join in with, some children are a little reluctant to get their hands messy, however with some support from our caring practitioners they end up thoroughly enjoy the experience.
