Our Little Master Chefs!
Let's get baking in Toddlers
After snack, the children in Toddlers all joined together and baked some festive biscuits. Simona, one of our brilliant practitioners, placed all the ingredients into large bowls for the children to independently scoop the necessary quantities into their bowl. The children listened to Simona's instructions and waited patiently for their turn. During the cooking experience, Simona and Lisa used simple keywords including "mix", "scoop", "roll" etc to promote the development of language.[ngg src="galleries" ids="256" display="basic_slideshow"]The flour was sprinkled on the table ready for the dough to be rolled out and the children saw this a fun opportunity to make marks in the flour with their fingers. They spread the flour across the table, as well as getting it over themselves, with both Lisa and Simona encouraging this fun sensory experience. Children were extremely proud of the marks they made and showed great satisfaction through the use of their facial expressions. The children independently rolled their dough out using a large rolling pin that was borrowed from our chef, Wendy. The festive biscuits were taken to the kitchen to cook and then to be packaged up, ready to take home.Incorporating activities such as cooking into their nursery routine is beneficial to each child's development and we are proud to include this in the children's days at Daisykins. These additional experiences provide a vast range of learning opportunities for children, promoting all seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
