St Patrick's day collage
Children in the baby plus room at Daisykins had a brilliant time getting messy and creating their St Patrick's day collage. The practitioners set up a variety of different green materials, such as paint, ribbon, pipe cleaners, pens, wax crayons, stickers and crate paper cut out into four leaf clover shapes. Two big sheets of green paper were placed on the floor and the practitioners helped the babies put on their aprons. The babies were then free to explore the different materials however they liked. The baby’s key persons were close by throughout the activity to offer some supported and to be a secure base for the babies to explore from. Here at Daisykins we try to celebrate as many different cultural festivals as we can in order for every child and parent to feel included and valued members of our nursery. This activity was child lead with no template given so the work was one hundred percent the children’s own creations which is common practice here at Daisykins. We feel that the children gain more from having control over their own work and that it enables them to learn new skills and to explore their characteristics of effective learning leading to a richer learning experience. At the end of the activity lots of praise was given and the work was displayed in the corridor to show our babies that there creations are appreciated and that they have done an amazing job.
