May Newsletter
Across the nursery everyone has been enjoying the lovely sunshine (with the exception of this week's terrible weather), spending time investigating different resources in the garden. To celebrate all things outdoors we took part in 'Outdoor Classroom Day' on Thursday 17th May, showcasing our activities in the outdoor environment. In the afternoon we welcomed parents/carers into our outdoor classroom to have a look at some of the things we do and to explore the activities with their little ones. It was lovely to see some of the parents/carers participating in some of the activities, which included weighing and measuring cornflakes, pretending to be a builder and playing in our campsite area. Latest News In Baby Room...
In the Baby Room, the children have been exploring different textures and senses from experimenting with cereals and heuristic objects. The babies investigated cornflakes with metal containers and pine cones, and porridge with wooden tools and containers. The theory behind heuristic play is that it helps babies explore different ways of using objects which are familiar to them. The practitioners have taken heuristic play into their garden space too, so the babies can investigate and take in the fresh air at the same time.
In the coming month, babies will have the chance to explore more messy objects with heuristic toys and the practitioners will be making up some tuff spot trays full of different objects for the babies to encounter.Latest News In Toddler Room...
In Toddler Room, the older children have been practising putting their shoes and coats on and have been attempting to wipe their own face and hands after meals. The older children have also carried out simple activities that involve numbers and counting. The younger children of toddler room have been looking through books and flashcards to help develop speech sounds and have liked playing with toys in the role play area. All the toddlers have liked being creative using different materials to create their own artwork.
In the coming month, the toddlers will be talking about holidays. They will be looking at pictures and books about holidays and may be asked to bring in holiday photos from home. To tie in with holidays, the children will also be learning about the different types of weather.Latest News In Pre-School Minors...In Pre-School Minors the children have been planting beans and watching them grow into beanstalks. They have also enjoyed searching for 'magic beans' among messy objects. The practitioners are beginning to introduce initial sounds in words, focusing primarily on the children's first initial in their name. This is good preparation for Pre-School in September. This links in with 'the sound of the week' and Pre-School Minors will have weekly homework to find something at home beginning with an initial sound. In the coming months, the children will begin their transition into Pre-School. This includes getting to know the staff in Pre-School and having little trials in their new room to see what it is all about.Latest News In Pre-School…
The practitioners in Pre-School have been planning activities around the children's interests. So with this in the mind, the children have been learning about camping. The children have thoroughly enjoyed playing outside with our own campsite and have made a campsite and campfire in the big room. Children in Pre-School have liked playing a game called, 'I went camping and I took...'; this activity enhances the children's memory skills, promotes concentration and encourages good listening to see if the children can remember what objects have been said.
In June the journey will continue with a trip to the zoo, and they will be carrying out activities within nursery about animals and their habitats. Also, from next week onwards, the children will be learning the basics of phonics, aiding the process of starting school. Notice for Pre-School parents/carers...As the children's time in Pre-School is coming to an end, we would like to ask all parents/carers if they could kindly let the office know when their child's last day of the nursery is going to be. For children who utilise the 15-hour funding scheme the last day will be Friday 20th July, but children who pay for extra sessions (eg. the 30-hour funding scheme) are welcome to stay up until Friday 31st August. Notice for Pre-School Minor parents/carers...As you are probably aware your little ones will start Pre-School in September; if you would like your little one to continue their journey through Daisykins please let the office know. This is to ensure we have space in our Pre-School room for your little ones in September.Dates for your diary....
