Awaiting the arrival of baby chicks

The children in Toddler Plus are very excited at the moment as they are waiting for their chicks to hatch. The eggs are in a incubator and the children take it turns to turn the eggs everyday with practitioner Sophie. During the daily visits to see the eggs the children enjoy talking about the baby chicks and what will happen when they hatch. The children are very keen for the eggs to hatch so that they can help to look after them. This experience is great for promoting areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage such as Personal, Social, and Emotional Development as the children are working to together to get ready for their new arrivals. It also supports their Communication and Language Development as they discuss how to keep the eggs safe and how to look after the chicks once they are born. The process so far has been exciting for the children, with regular requests to go and see the eggs. Hopefully it won't be to long until the eggs hatch and we will keep you posted on the children's choice of names for the chicks.
