Dates for your diary:

Parents evening:Pre-school  - Thursday 2nd and Thursday 9th July 2015Pre-school Minors - Thursday 25th June and 2nd July 2015Babies, Toddlers and Toddler plus  - Tuesday 14th. July 2015Pre-school Graduation:Thursday 16th and Friday 17th July 2015  5-7pm.Due to the volume of children we are holding the graduation in two groups. You will be given the date for your child to attend in due course. 

Garden update:    

The garden is now starting to take shape and  the children are starting to reap the benefits of  having the new climbing wall. The redevelopment has taken us a little longer than planned due to us completing the majority of the work in-house. This was done to enable us to resource the outdoor areas in a more elaborate way, which would not have been possibly any other way. The wet pour flooring is the next task to be completed which will be started next week.

The Daisykins chicks have now hatched!!

We have two girls and they are getting on well, the children have really enjoyed helping to look after them. We would like to say a big thank you to Sophie from Toddler Plus for all her hard work looking after the chicks not only now but when they were eggs too.  The children are very much enjoying having the chicks and when they are a bit bigger they will be going to live with Sophie permanently. 

Reminders:

Carpark :

Please remember that some parents do have to drop off/ collect their children quickly, so it is important to not block other cars in when you are trying to find a space. We do appreciate it can be difficult at certain times of the day.

Term Dates :

For the funded children the last day of the Summer term is Friday 17th July 2015,Returning for the first day of the Autumn term on Tuesday 1st September 2015.

Sun cream and sun hats:

As the weather is now improving could you please provide your child with sun hats and cream to keep them safe in the sun.

What's happening in the rooms

Babies/ Baby Plus:As you may now be aware, the Baby Room and Baby Plus are now one room due to the Baby Room staff transitioning through with the older children. There would only have been one or two younger babies left in the Baby Room then which we felt would impact on their experience here and reduce their social interactions significantly. Being one unit now enables those positive interactions to continue and for all of the children to benefit from their experiences at Daisykins.Toddler Room:Our current theme is ‘The Jungle’. We have made a jungle den on the carpet area for the children to explore in and they are really enjoying spending time in there pretending to be animals and wearing the masks they have made. As part of our commitment to working in partnership with parents we are involved in the two year check process. We provide parents with a progress report to take to the Health Visitor which forms part of their judgements with regards to the stage of development your child is at. We ask that any feedback you have from the two year check you share with your child’s key worker to enable them to add this information to the progress summaries and next steps we provide for them.Toddler Plus:Our current theme is ‘Superheroes’. We have been creating our own superheroes and doing lots of fun activities. We will be doing a charity activity for Myton Hospice which will involve getting sponsored for carrying out superhero activities at home such as keeping your room tidy or helping with the washing up! All entrants will be placed in a prize draw to win a Myton teddy by the name of Monty.Pre-school Minors:The children are getting ready to move up to the Pre-school room now and are starting to get very excited. They will have their transition time throughout August to familiarise themselves with the room and staff before September. Some of the older children from Pre-school will be ‘Buddies’ for the younger ones so they can show the where things are in the room and where the toilets are etc. You will be informed in due course as to what dates your child will have their trial sessions, and you will have the opportunity to go up to Pre-school and meet the team nearer the time.Pre-school:It is nearly that time of the year when we will be saying goodbye to the Pre-school children as they start their journey to ‘big school’. We wish them the best of luck and cannot wait to see them in their school uniforms, so if you would like to bring them in to see us we would love to see them.

Safeguarding at Daisykins

Body Awareness

Here at Daisykins we take the safety of the children extremely seriously. At present all of our staff have a level one child protection certificate, and there is a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) on site who takes charge of all areas of Safeguarding within the nursery. The DSL for the nursery is Gemma Jones.As part of our commitment to keeping the children safe we aim to support them in knowing how to keep themselves safe. We talk about Stranger Danger and Road Safety, and have had Rachel from Rugby BID come in several times over the past few weeks to talk about these subjects. She will be taking the children and staff of a Road Safety walk in the next couple of weeks to enhance their learning even further.As an addition to keeping the children safe we talk to the older children about body awareness, and as such we talk about various body parts and their names. We do this through small group activities and the use of visual aids such as cartoon pictures of a body and using labels to match the part to the name.When carrying out activities like this and when having discussions with the children we use the correct terminology for all body parts and we encourage children and parents to do the same. We appreciate that this may be uncomfortable to begin with, however once the correct terminology is embedded it will become more normal and not so embarrassing to talk about. We do this because in various studies carried out over the past few years it has been highlighted by convicted child offenders, that they would not target children who could correctly identify their body parts. This is because should anything come to light, the child would be able to identify to a court exactly what had happened and where.More often than not sexual abuse cases are thrown out in court due to ‘code’ names being used to identify specific areas of the body rather than the universally known ones. 21 questions The idea of teaching the children the correct terminology is that they can help to keep themselves safe and have body awareness. This may be something you wish to do at home as well to ensure continuity, and making other family members aware of this is also advisable.
