Babies developing their senses

Investigating an Autumn Tuff spot Tray

Practitioners from our Baby Room ventured out into the garden with the babies to collect some leaves, twigs and helicopter leaves. On entering the baby room Vicky Head of Baby Room put together an Autumn Tuff spot tray full of the items that were collected in the garden. To enhance the activity further other Autumn objects were also added such as Soft Owls. foxes, wooden logs and small tree trunk stumps.[ngg src="galleries" ids="245" display="basic_slideshow"]The tray was positioned on the floor for all the babies to access. Practitioners positioned themselves close by to support, enhance and observe the children in their play. As the babies began to explore the items they showed a particular interest in what objects to explore. The large twigs were picked up by the babies and examined from all angles and tapped on the floor creating a sound. As the babies held the different objects in their hand practitioners used single words to describe the object, repeating the word several times.Enhancing and developing children's language is of high importance at our nursery. Practitioners play a  significant role in tuning into the different messages babies attempt to covey. and value the way they attempt words. Throughout the week at Daisykins Nursery, a variety of sensory activities are available for children to join in, these activities help stimulates a child's touch, smell, taste, sight and hearing.
