Children cooking at Christmas time

Christmas baking in Pre School

To carry on the festive fun and build on the children's excitement, a fun week of Christmas baking was planned. The children’s spirits were kept high with the anticpation of what was next on the list to bake.

To start off with the children made some yummy chocolate brownie Christmas trees. Together the children made the chocolate brownie mixture, taking it in turns to add the ingredients into the bowl. After allowing the cooked brownies to cool, the children decorated their tree shapes with green icing and chocolate beans. At home time the children were very eager to show their parents/carers what they had made.

Peppermint creams were the next Christmassy recipe to follow. During the process of adding and mixing the ingredients the children couldn’t understand why they were making green playdough. Jess, Head of Pre School, explained that although it looked like green playdough, it was in fact peppermint creams that they were making, which they could eat. The peppermint creams were sent home with the children to give to their loved ones to enjoy.

Jess, Head of Pre School, asked the children what else they wanted to make and they decided to make Jam Tarts. Over the week the children had so much fun baking at this magical time of the year. They got to take home chocolate reindeer cakes they made Natalie and Sophie, two of the practitioners who are based in Pre School. They looked very yummy with chocolate curly wurlys sticking out from the cake representing the reindeers antlers.

On Christmas party day in the afternoon the children made ginger fudge. The children took it in turns to smell the different spices. The fudge was placed in the fridge to set and at home time it was nice and firm ready to take home.

The children had an amazing time baking lots of festive recipes and what better time of the year for children to embrace the love of cooking.
