Christmas Carolling In Our Outdoor Area

"Rocking around the Christmas tree"

Here at Daisykins Day Nursery, we believe that singing is an important part of the children's daily routine, due to the effect it has on their Communication and Language Development. We are firm believers that singing time is a must, especially at Christmas time!

We therefore decided to invite the children and their parents/carers, brothers and sisters and grandparents to join us in singing Christmas carols. On Wednesday 19th December 2018 at 5pm, the festive fun started with one of the children's favourite songs; 'Jingle Bells'. The children and their families gathered around the Christmas tree in the outdoor area and began singing. Bells were given out for the children to ring and one of the practitioners demonstrated the Makaton symbols throughout, as taught by our SENDCo, Natalie.

The next part of the carol service heard the children singing 'I'm a Great Big Snowman' in which they imitated the Makaton actions that the practitioner was demonstrating. As they sang, Kelly, our Nursery Manager, informed everyone present that if they sang loud enough, it would snow. The children were so excited and instantly became louder, singing their hearts off in the hope that it would soon start to snow. A few seconds later, Kelly turned on the snow machine and the children smiled, giggled and screamed in excitement as the small white flakes drifted through the sky.

We were delighted to be joined by so many parents/carers, brothers and sisters and grandparents and loved singing Christmas carols with everyone. After a few songs and playing in the snow, we stopped for a quick snack. Mince pies, biscuits and small cakes were placed out for all to enjoy. After resting their voices, refuelling their energy and having a little treat, the singing continued with more of the children's favourite Christmas songs.

From 'Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer' to 'Santa Claus' to 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas', children, and adults, of all ages joined in singing Christmas carols. You name it, they sang it! The tree lights shone, the snow fell and the fairy lights twinkled as the children, their family members and the practitioners gathered in the outdoor area to celebrate the festive period in song.

We were extremely pleased by the volume of family members that joined us in singing Christmas carols and hope to see everyone again in the near future at our upcoming parent/carer events.
