Christmas Playdough Fun
Is it a reindeer or a snowman?
The children in Pre School Minors had lots of creative fun making their own reindeers and snowmen out of playdough. The practitioners supported the children's independence, decision making skills and encouraged them to direct their play by giving each child the choice of using brown or white playdough.
The children eagerly sat down and began their creative journey in making either a reindeer or a snowman. They were provided with an inviting collection of open-ended resources such as red pompoms, twigs from the garden, brown pipe cleaners, wobbly eyes, wooden sticks, pieces of felt and buttons. The children couldn’t resist squeezing, patting and rolling their dough into the shape of their choice. One little girl rolled out two pieces of white dough and sat one on top of the other, commenting that one was the head and the other was the body of the snowman. She finalised her creation by adding buttons to his body and wobbly eyes for him to see. She used the black felt pieces for his hat and the long red pieces of felt as a scarf. The little girl was proud of her snowman and called Connie, one of the practitioners based in Pre-School Minors, over to the table to have a look. Connie encouraged the child to talk her through how she made her snowman and the little girl took great pride in doing so.

Both Connie and Laura, who is Head of Pre-School Minors Room, commended the children on their adorable reindeers and snowmen. As the children thoroughly enjoyed this fun festive activity why not carry this on at home. Click here for the playdough recipe.
