Enjoying books in the Baby Room
Why we love reading in our Baby Room at Daisykins Nursery
There are so many benefits to reading and sharing stories with babies and children, and that why at Daisykins Nursery in Rugby we love it and do it on a daily basis.
There are many different types of books shared in our baby room at our Rugby Nursery such as black and white picture books, my first words, interactive books with buttons and flaps, touch and feel books and short stories. All of which will hold shared and unique benefits.
Books and stories are a great way of securing relationships between key person and child through some valuable one to one time and sharing an interest. This is a brilliant way to support a new babies emotional development and help them feel secure, confident and settled in a new setting. Sharing stories on a one to one basis is just as important as sharing stories in a group for building relationships, making connections with others and learning important social skills.
Along with social skills and supporting emotional skills the more obvious benefit of books and stories is the way it promote communication and language skills. Books and stories introduce children to new vocabulary, give meaning to objects and words to objects, teach babies language skills such as letters, sounds, rhymes, blending and tempos. It also teaches babies reading skills such as reading from left to right and top to bottom. All things which babies automatically will pick up on just through sharing and enjoying books and stories together.
Another benefit of sharing books and stories in the baby room at Daisykins is developing children’s perception and knowledge of the world around them. This may be through developing an awareness of shapes, colour, objects, size, number etc through talking about what they can see in the pictures and talking about the places seen.
Books and stories are also a wonderful way to stimulate the babies imagination and ignite natural curiosities and creativity. What is your baby's favourite story at home at we could share in our Rugby Nursery?
