Firework Masterpieces
Getting all glittery for Bonfire Night
The children in Baby Room at Daisykins Nursery got very creative when making their own firework masterpieces. They explored and experimented with a range of media through sensory exploration. They joined their peers around the art table and began making marks on their paper using various tools. Large handled paint brushes, star cutters and rubber printing stamps were on offer for the babies to choose from, enabling them to make their own choices and encouraging independence at a young age.[ngg src="galleries" ids="272" display="basic_slideshow"]Practitioners positioned themselves next to the children, they used simple language to support the children in choosing what tool to use. The children had smiles on their little faces as the practitioners praised and appaulded them each time they made marks on their paper. The babies sat for a considerable amount of time, noticing the effects of making movements which leave marks. Some children preferred the paintbrushes as they were able to make marks easier than using other implements, such as the star cutter. Using large handled brushes enables children to develop their fine motor skills, which will help them later on when they begin to learn to write.Messy play is a particularly important form of play for a child as it stimulates so many of their senses, aswell as developing their cognitive development. This sort of play is fantastic as there is no pressure on making or producing something, enabling the child to freely explore at their own pace.
