Fun beach day in baby room

An indoor beach was created in baby room

The children in Baby room at Daisykins have had a fun beach day within the room this month. The practitioners from our Rugby Nursery set up an indoor beach by pouring sand out onto the floor to represent the beach and filling a paddling pool with warm water to represent the sea. Practitioners informed the parents of what they were going to do in advance and encouraged them to bring in swimwear for the children and any beach toys they have at home.

The much anticipated day came, and the babies arrived with an array of swimwear and accessories. After their breakfast and a few of the routine parts of their morning, the practitioners took the children to another area of the room to dress then in their swimwear, hats, sunglasses, etc. while a practitioner set up the hard floor area.

When all was transformed, and the children were ready, they had a great time exploring their new beach. They enjoyed emptying and filling buckets with sand, making sandcastles, and had fun filling and pouring the water out of watering cans and splashing each other in the paddling pool.

As part of their day, the children also had a special treat at snack time. Practitioners helped them to make their own ice creams! The babies were encouraged to use an ice cream scoop to put a ball of ice cream into their bowl, choose a sauce to drizzle on and carefully sprinkle on some hundreds and thousands. They were very excited to eat them, and some could hardly wait! The children were asked what they thought of their ice cream creations and one said "It's yummy!" while another said "mmmm."

Here at Daisykins Nursery in Rugby, we strive to provide the children with different, exciting activities and environments to enhance their learning and development. Through this experience the children learnt to use their different senses to explore, using their touch in the sand and water play, their sight to explore the different toys and their taste to eat their yummy ice cream creations!
