Busy scientists at Daisykins Nursery
Taking part in a science experiment
Our little scientists at Daisykins have been busy again! The children in Pre-School Minors at our Whitehall setting have taken part in and conducted a skittles rainbow experiment.
Practitioners gathered the children around a bench in our outdoor learning classroom and explained what they were going to do. A plate was placed on the table upside down and the children were encouraged to place sweet skittles on top of the plate, around the edge in the shape of a circle. They made a pattern out of the sweets so that there were different colours next to each other. Next a practitioner used a jug of lukewarm water and poured it carefully on top of the circle of skittles.
What happened next amazed the children, the colours began to run and created a rainbow pattern. The children were asked what had happened and what colours they could see. One child said "A rainbow has appeared!" and another child shouted "I can see red and yellow!". The practitioners then helped the children to name all the different colours and sang the song "I can sing a rainbow"
