How Daisykins Nursery Promotes Children's Learning

How we inspire and promote children’s learning and development

Daisykins Nursery in Rugby follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) This the national framework for under 5’s. This framework is followed by all early years settings and schools in England. It can be used to promote care and learning from the moment a baby is born up until they start year 1 at school. This means that even reception children and classes follow the EYFS.

The EYFS suggests ways in which care and learning should be promoted and offers advice on best practice to follow. However the EYFS has a lot of flexibility in how milestones should be achieved and promoted. This gives Daisykins the opportunity to create fun and interesting activities, topics and resources to promote learning how they see best.

Daisykins Nursery in Rugby has invested a great deal of time and money on the children’s learning environment, both indoors and outdoors, to ensure the children can achieve to their best of their ability.  The indoor environment is made up of several learning areas and creating a loose parts approach and have a wonderful custom designed garden so learning is being supported and promoted wherever the children are in the Nursery.

Not only is the learning environment unique at Daisykins, but they have also ensure that learning experiences are tailored and unique for each child. As the EYFS states all children will develop at different rates and this ethos is strongly embedded at Daisykins. This means all activities can be differentiated and planned to meet individual children’s next steps, targets and milestones.

From the moment children start at Daisykins Nursery in Rugby they are observed and information regarding their interests is gathered. This is done through all about me forms completed by parents and by practitioners observing the children. This is then used to inform both short term daily and weekly planning and also mid term planning used for topics and themes. Following children’s interests is incredibly important so that all children enjoy their time at Nursery and if they are enjoying themselves they will learn without even realising it.

Learning at Daisykins is great fun, often messy and is always done through play. Play is so important for children’s learning and at Daisykins there are opportunities all day, every day for children to learn through play based activities created around their interests.
