Daisykins own Speech and Langauge Champion

Daisykins Nursery has its own Speech and Language Champion

Daisykins Nursery in Rugby has their own speech and language champion, Gail. Gail has been a practitioner at Daisykins for a number of years and has worked in various rooms and roles making her a very experienced practitioner. Gail also holds a degree in the early years and has completed all tiers of Warwickshire's Time to Talk training making her a Speech and Language Champion. This is not something held by all nurseries in the local area so Daisykins in Rugby have invested time to ensure all the children who attend the setting can get the support they need. Check out our article here on all the ways we can support children’s needs.

A speech and language champion is someone who has completed many hours of training and portfolio work and is therefore able to screen children to discover any speech and language issues they may have. This is done in a fun way using lots of different resources so the children are unaware they are being screened. Screening is of huge benefit to children because it can highlight any areas of weakness that can then be improved and supported before it gets to the stage where children need additional support from outside agencies.

Gail, our Rugby Nursery speech and language champion, is armed with hundreds of activities that can be shared with practitioners and parents to support children’s speech and language development.

If parents or practitioners have any concerns or queries at all regarding speech and language they are able to approach Gail or ask to have a meeting with Gail, where she can discuss these concerns and reassure parents and put any steps in place that may be necessary.

Gail is also able to work with the settings SENDCO and make referrals to (Warwickshire’s) speech and language therapists to request additional support from further practitioners if it is necessary. All these early interventions mean children can be supported and are often able to receive all the support they need to meet their new targets and catch up with peers before they start school.

If you have any concerns over your child’s speech and language development and they attend Daisykins Nursery in Rugby please do not hesitate to meet with Gail and have a discussion with her.
