In search for bugs

Practitioners and children from Daisykins nursery in Rugby set off in search for bugs, they packed some magnifying glasses and bug containers to help them. Creepy crawlies and bugs are the most popular form of wildlife children see here at nursery whether this is when playing in the outdoors or when visiting our local park, finding bugs always draws shrieks of excitement from our children.

It can be said that not all children like creepy crawlies and bugs, however by going on a bug hunt with their friends it can help children explore and connect with the natural world in a safe and stimulating environment.To make a bug hunt a fun and enchanting experience it is highly important to take the right tools with you.

Whilst the children were out on their bug hunt they used their magnifying glass to look closer at their bugs, they waited quietly for creepy crawlies to slowly appear from under leaves and plants. Children also searched for clues of where these bugs could be hiding, they followed spider web trails and were thrilled to find small spiders hanging from the web.

The children were very curious of dead bugs and wanted these to come back to nursery with them. A variety of creepy crawlies were collected during the bug hunt  they were placed in the bug containers. When the children arrived back at nursery they examined the bugs through the bug containers  and with help from practitioners they released the bugs into the garden.
