Mini beast hotel
A lot of the children here at Daisykins have shown a key interest in insects and creepy crawlies and we know that children learn at their best when they are interested and passionate about a topic. Due to the high level of interest in mini beasts we have decided to build our very own mini beast hotel. The hotel has been built in our forest area of the garden and consists of several different levels with viewing holes and plenty of different media for the mini beasts to live in. We began by stacking wooden pallets on top of each other which created lots of different spaces and gaps to fill with various things. We filled the spaces with snug plant pots, bricks with holes, leaves, twigs, bark, hay and plants. Each type of media is carefully placed to encourage as much wildlife as possible into our garden. All the children across the nursery have enjoyed investigating and exploring the hotel discovering if any mini beasts are staying at the hotel this week. The children are encouraged to interact in a respectful way and to be caring of the hotel in case any mini beasts are staying there. The children love getting out the magnifying glasses and having a close look inside the plants, bark, twigs and leaves to see what’s hiding in there.
