Planting tomato seeds
Great Dais pre-school enjoyed spending some time in the garden in the beautiful weather learning all about planting and growing. Great Dais has been discovering all about growing as part of their current topic and as part of our continuous provision the learning was taken outside. The children helped to fill the pot ready for the tomato seeds to go in, they used their hands to transfer the compost and then gently patted it down. The children then took it in turns to sprinkle on the tomato seeds and then finally watered them so the tomato seeds would grow. Throughout the experience the practitioners encouraged the children to discuss and consider what would be needed to help the plants grow and where would be the best place to keep them. This experience enabled the children to have a firsthand experience and to discover more about growing and the world around them. The children will be encouraged to continue to care for and observe the changes that happen as the tomato plant grows. We will also plant a wider variety of plants and use a variety of tools.
