Our Redeveloped Menu

More about our newly developed menu

Over the last month at Daisykins nursery in Rugby, the children have been trying our 4 Week Menus. Our chef Wendy has spent time looking at the new government recommendations for children, as well as example menus and has redeveloped our previous menu to reflect these, introducing new meals and tastes for the children.  The snacks are now more nutritious with them having a choice of fruit; apple, pear, orange and banana, with raisins at one snack time and then a choice of vegetable sticks: carrot, pepper, cucumber or celery, with rice cakes, oatcakes, cheese or breadsticks. These then alternate on a weekly basis, with the children having fruit, etc in the morning and vegetable sticks, etc in the afternoon one week and then swap the following. This allows children who only do mornings or afternoons to experience both.
Some of the new dishes on the menu include a mixed bean and root vegetable stew with couscous, a pork, leek and mustard casserole with mash potato and brussels sprouts and a tagliatelle with vegetable ragu. The children have explored the new tastes with interest, and practitioners have spoken to them about what the different ingredients are that they are tasting. Our 4 Week Menus is displayed in reception for parents/carers to see.
