The children in Pre-School at Daisykins Nursery in Rugby have been making their own people out of different shaped pieces of paper. A practitioner gave the children the different shapes and encouraged them to stick them on the paper to make a person. The practitioners asked the children what each shape could represent, for example a circle for the head, a square for the body, rectangles for the arms and legs, etc. The children and practitioners talked about the different colours and what their favourite colours were.
The children were then asked to draw faces onto their people. One child said "I'm going to draw a smiley face" and another child said "My hairs long so I'm going to draw long hair". Most of the children joined in with the activity and seemed to be very excited about taking part, asking practitioners if they could do it again.Throughout the week children at Daisykins Nursery do lots of activities to promote their creative and physical development. These activities range from painting, to sticking, to playing with gloop and other messy play. Practitioners like to ensure that they are providing different activities regularly and making them available to all children, during all sessions.
