Where is the giant tortoise hiding?

Our middle floor children at Daisykins nursery in Rugby were all very lucky and incredibly excited when a trip to Twycross zoo was planned to support their current topic of animals. All the children arrived at nursery and enjoyed their breakfast and then the coach arrived to take them to the zoo.

All the children were very excited as they climbed aboard the coach. Once the children arrived at the zoo they all broke off into smaller groups and enjoyed walking around and looking at all the amazing animals there. They enjoyed learning lots of interesting things about all of the animals like how to care for them, what they like to eat and where they come from. There were lots of different types of animals there and some had very funny names and some that the children had never seen before not even in books. After seeing lots of animals the children all joined back up to enjoy a picnic made by the chef.

The children were all very keen to see the meerkats but on the first walk around the meerkats were being moved to a different enclosure which was very disappointing but luckily on the way back to the coach the meerkats had been put back so everyone got to see them. Another favourite of the children’s was the giant land tortoise, they thought he was amazing. The trip to the zoo was a brilliant opportunity to extend the children’s learning outside the classroom,  the children were having fun and were really interested in the whole day and they learnt a great deal without even realising it. It was an excellent opportunity to get some real hands on learning and a day out the children will remember for a long time.
