What have our babies been up to this week?

This week they have been fascinated in our loose parts over the generic baby toys again taking a particular interest in the door knobs and bangles. This may seem like a crazy thing to suggest as beneficial for the babies to be exploring but they learning possibilities for the babies have been endless.
They have used these objects to explore their characteristics of effective learning, which show and develop the babies natural motivations and ways in which they lean. It has also allowed them to explore various schemas which are again behaviours and ways in which the babies are motivated to learn. They have also met new milestones and achieved some of their next steps through exploring these objects and resources.
The baby room practitioners Vicky and Kaysha have observed the babies love for these objects and identified the schemas they have been exploring such as posting, transporting and enveloping and extended these to promote learning in other areas. Identifying the babies interests through observing them is incredibly important to the babies development and mean that these can be supported, promoted and extended. This influences the planning cycles and ensures that the babies are fully engaged in their own learning.
They have given the babies various different pots and objects that the door knobs can be posted in to giving the babies opportunity to learn more about problem solving and shape, space and measure.
They have set up activities that have included hiding the bangles under various pieces of materials and pots. This has encouraged the babies to learn about object permanence and is a key skill that is raised during babies
