An energetic sports day

The children in Pre-school Minors room at Daisykins nursery in Rugby celebrated the end of the year and the near transition to Great dais preschool with a sports day. The children had been learning a lot about sports from their sports topic which was initiated following the children’s interest in the world cup. Everyone was incredibly excited and had been sorted into teams a few days before the sports day.As soon as the children knew what colour team they were in they began making team flags. When the big day arrived all the children came to nursery wearing their team colour t-shirts and full of enthusiasm for the day. The children walked down to the field where many of their parents were ready and waiting to cheer them on. The children participated in various events such as an egg and spoon race which really challenged the children’s hand eye coordination and stability, obstacle courses which engaged various large motor movements such as climbing, crawling through a tunnel, stepping in hoops and balancing on a beam and of course running races. The obstacle course really gave the children an opportunity to develop on important physical skills, and to find out exactly what their bodies were capable of doing. The children were all very supportive of each other and cheered each other on. Each child was seen as a winner and a fantastic day was had by all. Some of the parents joined in with some parent races, the children enjoyed their mummy's and daddy's being involved and it was a good opportunity for some positive role modelling. At the end of all the races the children enjoyed a lovely picnic where they were joined by parents and their families.
