Let's get baking with our parents/carers
Parents/carers join in our Baking Morning
On 15th January 2018 parents/carers were invited into Daisykins Nursery to take part in a parent cooking morning. Daisykins in Rugby try to hold a parent event once a month to promote parent partnerships and to give parents/carers the opportunity to experience a small snippet of the things their children get up to during their time at Daisykins Nursery. Previously arts and crafts mornings have been held or coffee or messy play mornings etc but this month it was a cooking morning.
Parents/carers and their children as well as a few children from across the
The children enjoyed being able to choose their own quiche fillings and pizza toppings. All of which were healthy and encouraged the children to think about what they like, dislike or might like to try. This all promoted personal and social skills along with communication and language skills. The children used a variety of tools to help them including spoons and forks to spread to tomato base, mix ingredients and to add toppings and fillings. All great for motor skills and independence.
The quiches and cheese straws involved the parents and children making their own pastry. This was lots of sticky, messy fun. The parents and children added the ingredients to their own bowls and then had to mix everything with their hands. Lots of the children really enjoyed getting messy and the sensory experience.
It was lovely to see the parents and their children working through the recipes together. By parents coming in to the nursery more often it shows the children the good relationship the parents have with the nursery and how what the children get up to their is valued. All of this is important so the children have high self esteem and feel secure during their time at our Rugby Nursery.
We hope to see lots of you for our next parent morning in February!
