Planting vegetables from seedlings

Children from nursery participated in our new gardening project, our project is to grow vegetables and teach the children how these grow. The area in our outdoor environment allows the children to care for the vegetables and watch them grow. We decided to grow the seedlings in a range of plants pots and rubber tyres, as this is a great way to get fresh produce and takes up very little space.

The children helped one another to fill their containers, practitioners discussed with the children what they were growing and how they the roots need to be buried in the soil. Runner bean plants were gently planted in a tyre and the children created a wigwam shape using bamboo canes, as the runner beans grow the children will guide them to grow up and around the bamboo. The children have planted potatoes, carrot seedling, runner beans and peas.
