Our Story Mornings At Daisykins Nursery
Over the last few months we have held different themed parent mornings at our Whitehall Daisykins Nursery in Rugby. During March we arranged a story morning for each of the rooms. Parents were encouraged to come in and spend some time with their children and enjoy one of the children's favourite stories, taking part in some different activities related to these. The first to have their story morning was Pre-School and their chosen book was 'We're going on a bear hunt'. The bay window in the reception area was transformed into a cosy corner with cushions and blankets and different stations were set up for the children to explore. Small groups of the Pre-School children were then encouraged to come down and take part. The children gathered in the cosy corner and all sat beautifully listening to the story being read. Some of the Pre-Schoolers even joined in with the words as they knew the story so well! After the story was finished the children we're informed they had been sent a letter by the bear himself. It informed them that he wasn't trying to be scary he was just looking to play hide and seek with them, and asked if the wanted to join him for a game in soft play. A practitioner informed them that there were lost of different bears hiding in Daisy tumble and that they needed to go and hunt for them. The children were all very excited and went off to re-enact their own mini bear hunt. When they returned to the reception area they then explored the activities that had been set out. These included a Bear Hunt themed tuft spot, colouring sheets, a matching game.[ngg_images source="galleries" container_ids="207" exclusions="1584,1585,1586,1587,1588,1589,1590,1591,1594,1596,1598,1597,1599" sortorder="1584,1585,1586,1587,1588,1589,1590,1591,1607,1605,1603,1606,1602,1604,1601,1592,1593,1594,1600,1595,1596,1598,1597,1599" display_type="photocrati-nextgen_basic_slideshow" gallery_width="600" gallery_height="400" cycle_effect="fade" cycle_interval="3" show_thumbnail_link="0" thumbnail_link_text="[Show picture list]" order_by="sortorder" order_direction="ASC" returns="included" maximum_entity_count="500"]Next to have their story morning was Pre-School Minors and their chosen book was "The three little pigs". The children again gathered around in the bay window and listened patiently to the story before going off to explore the different stations that had been set up. A tuft spot had been made using bricks, twigs, straw, three little pigs and the wolf. The children were encouraged to re-enact the story in the tuft spot and build their own houses using the resources provided. Some of the children also tried on some of the character masks and repeated some of the phrases from the book, pretending to be the different characters. In Toddlers their chosen book was "The Gruffalo" and some parents came to join in with the fun this time. The children enjoyed listening to the story and then explored the different activities that had been set out. These included a Gruffalo themed tuft spot, which involved stones, mud, twigs, sand and sparkly paper. The children used puppets to attempt to re-enact the story within it.[ngg_images source="galleries" container_ids="207" exclusions="1592,1593,1594,1595,1602,1603,1604,1605,1606,1607,1600,1601" sortorder="1592,1593,1594,1595,1602,1603,1604,1605,1606,1607,1596,1597,1598,1599,1584,1585,1586,1587,1588,1589,1590,1591,1600,1601" display_type="photocrati-nextgen_basic_slideshow" gallery_width="600" gallery_height="400" cycle_effect="fade" cycle_interval="3" show_thumbnail_link="0" thumbnail_link_text="[Show picture list]" order_by="sortorder" order_direction="ASC" returns="included" maximum_entity_count="500"]Babies story morning was based on the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". They did activities tailored to their individual ages and stages such as fruit printing, posting different fruits into a hungry caterpillar post box and tasting the different foods from the book.At our Whitehall Daisykins Nursery in Rugby we like to promote parent partnerships and encourage parents to see how their children interact within the setting. So look out for more parent/carer mornings and events in the near future.
