What Have The Children Been Doing In Pre-School?

Over the last few months in Pre-School at Daisykins the practitioners have been doing lots of different activities with the children to help prepare them for their upcoming transition to 'big' school and ensure they are 'School Ready'.

Practitioners have set up activities for the children to practice their fine motor skills ready to help them with pencil control. For example, the children played in gelli baf with insects, tweezers, reflective bowls, jugs and scoops. The practitioners encouraged the children to use the different sized tweezers to pick up the insects and transport them to the different containers. They were also able to use them to scoop up the geli baf and transfer it between the different sized containers, talking about when they were full or empty.

Pre-school have been focusing more on letter formation and recognition. The children and practitioners have used white boards to practice forming them on, learning to recognise the different letters and the difference between capital and lower case letters.

The children have also been learning their letters through phonics, using "Jolly Phonics" which has proved to be a huge success! We're sure the children have probably been singing them lots at home, as we've been hearing them all over the nursery, from both the children and practitioners as they are very catchy! The Pre-Schoolers have been practicing the actions as well as the words to the songs.

As we have approached the end of July the children and practitioners have said goodbye to some of the children as they break up for the summer. As the older children move on it's the time of year again where children transition down from Pre-School Minors. Trials have slowly started to happen and those still in Pre-School have been looking after the smaller children, being buddy's to them and showing them around the rooms and some activities they can expect to do when they start.

Everyone throughout the nursery hopes the children have enjoyed their time in Pre-School at Daisykins, learning lots of new skills to equip them for the future. And we wish all the children the best of luck in their adventure to school!
