What Have The Children Been Up Too In Pre-School Minors?
It's been a busy few weeks in our Pre-School Minors room at Daisykins Nursery with lots of different activities for the children to explore and preparations starting for the transition to Pre-School in September.
The children have been learning the letters of the alphabet and which ones help to form their names, especially the letter it starts with. Practitioners have set up different activities for them to explore incorporating letters, for example including letters in the sand tray, encouraging them to use sticks to attempt to draw them with. During circle time they have taken part in activities where they focus on a specific letter, learning how to pronounce it and then having to find objects that start with that letter, sharing what they are with their peers. Practitioners will add in objects that begin with different letters to add to the challenge and make it trickier.
Alongside learning what the different letters are the children have also been learning how to sign the alphabet. The majority of the children can now sign the first letter of their name, and they may have started to share the signs they have learnt with you at home. During register time they now sing their days of the week song, to the theme tune of the Addams family, and have learnt to sign along to it too.

On the Dance Floor the Pre-School Minor children have been extending their physical skills through participating in some yoga. Practitioners guided the children with different moves to make and encouraged them to attempt to copy, some of the staff even joined in too!
Trials to Pre-School are now underway and the children are trialling with groups of their friends to aid the transitions, sometimes spending full or part of their days in their new room. The children from Toddlers have also been trialling to Pre-School Minors and some of the current Minors have therefore been acting as role models, showing them around.
Keep an eye out for another update on what the children have been doing here at Daisykins Nursery. We update our Facebook page on a regular basis with photos of the exciting activities the children have been taking part in.
