Why Singing Songs With Children is So Important

Why we love singing songs at Daisykins Nursery

At Daisykins Nursery in Rugby singing songs and rhymes is a big part of the day and is much loved by all the children. Singing can be fun and silly and has so many learning benefits at the same time. There is never a moment when it's not appropriate to sing songs and rhymes. They are used at the start of the day to welcome each other to the nursery. There are many other times of the day when singing is used at nursery such as, nappy changing times, social circle times, before nap times to soothe and calm tired babies and children, whilst moving around the nursery or whenever practitioners feel like bursting into song. Singing to children during a nappy time is an ideal time to enjoy that one to one to time, developing that all-important bond.

Songs and Rhymes have so many wonderful benefits such as improving communication and language skills, personal and social skills, number skills, physical skills and understanding of the world. Different songs may be used at different times and to improve different areas of learning.

3 little men in a flying saucer

Songs such as Sandy Girl, Farmers Den and Row Row your Boat are brilliant for social skills including interacting with others, turn taking, choosing and remembering names etc

Songs such as head, shoulders, knees and toes, sleeping bunnies and roly poly are all great for physical skills. The simple words and actions make learning the songs and movements easy and are great for the children to learn more about songs and rhymes without having to sit still.

5 little ducks, 1,2,3,4,5 once i caught a fish... and 5 little men in a flying saucer are brilliant for number skills and firm favourties of the children in our Daisykins toddler room. These teach children about number names and order and this can also be enhanced through the use of props without  children even realising they are learning about numbers.

All these songs and many many more are enjoyed regularly throughout the Nursery day and hopefully, this article will have inspired you to sing more and whenever you have the chance at home and through your day.
